(Toya)

The Ship‘s Cook. He prepares tasty, soul infused meals for the crew.
Toya is a master in the arts of battle and cooking, always eager to challenge himself both in the kitchen and the field. He also makes a mean octopus carpaccio.
Ironically, one of the first characters we designed for our then‑new pirate themed project was Toya the Ninja pirate, based in no small part on Shadow Tactics‘ Hayato.
It was our big goal to end up with a very international crew consisting of characters from all over the world, and what better country to start with than one we are very familiar with at Mimimi.
Toya‘s visual design itself is a careful mix of ninja elements and pirate elements.
The shirt for example is reminiscent of a Japanese Hakama‑Shita, as well as a western coat judging by its collar. The sword is a mix of Ninjato and rapier.
We chopped off his left arm simply because in a game where most playable characters are some type of skeleton, we knew we needed to play around with missing limbs at some point, and a one‑armed Ninja just sounds too cool to pass up.
